Facilities at RAF Lossiemouth in Scotland are being upgraded as part of investments costing more than £400 million altogether. The Moray base is home to four Typhoon fighter jet squadrons, a new fleet of Poseidon Maritime Patrol aircraft, IX (Bomber) Squadron and an RAF regiment squadron.

Work to resurface two runways has been carried out as part of a £75million upgrade, while the intersection between them has been stripped, strengthened and resurfaced. The refurbishment began in late 2019, as part of a contract awarded to VolkerFitzpatrick Ltd by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation.

Project Description

In July 2017 the Align joint venture was awarded the C1 package of the UK High Speed 2 line (HS2). C1 consists of 21.6km of high speed rail infrastructure in a rural environment. This will include a 3.37km viaduct, 16.04km twin-bored tunnel and five vent shafts handling both intervention and tunnel ventilation facilities.

REX Civil Engineering - Scope of Work

REX Civil Engineering were engaged by P J Davidson UK to provide an Engineering team to deliver the Engineering elements associated with laying Pavement Quality Concrete using 3D Model control.  REX are providing Engineering support through on-site Site Civil Engineering and off site model processing.

Duties include but not limited to:

  • Calibration of survey equipment and control systems

  • Validate and check control systems

  • Receive and process design information for setting out

  • Setting line and level of shuttering for hand lay sections for concrete pavement

  • Calibrate and set up machine control systems

  • Progressive manual line and level checks throughout the paving operations

  • Provide Engineering support to concrete surfacing team

  • Complete as-built surveys and compile data for submission to design team

  • Proactive review of design information to ensure the issued data covers the full extents of the programmed works

  • Liaise with design team regarding issues with design model and assist in resolving issues
